NovaSure Endometrial Ablation  | Santa Fe OBGYN

The endometrium is the lining that builds up in the uterus on a monthly basis in preparation for a pregnancy. When that lining is excessive or hormonal irregularities cause more build up of lining, you can have heavy or irregular periods. An endometrial ablation is a procedure that cauterizes or destroys all or part of this lining and improves bleeding since less tissue develops.

Our OBGYNs have extensively researched all of the different options for in-office endometrial ablation. While she does other types of endometrial ablation in the hospital, for in-office treatment Dr. Martinez believes that the safety profile of the NovaSure procedure is the best. Due to the narrow diameter of the NovaSure – which requires less dilation of the cervix (the opening to the uterus) – there is less pain associated with NovaSure endometrial ablation.

NovaSure endometrial ablation can treat different sizes and shapes of cavities and is also approved to treat bleeding when there are small fibroids present in the uterus. Dr. Martinez has been doing NovaSure in-office endometrial ablation since 2007.

If you’re struggling with heavy periods that disrupt your life, NovaSure® may offer the relief you’ve been looking for. Our board-certified OBGYNs will help determine if this procedure is right for you based on your medical history and symptoms.
